One thing that just about anybody who has traveled internationally dreads, is having to go through customs. Regardless of if you are trying to hide something or not, you can in many cases get yourself into trouble. I have experienced this as well as many other people, and I've learned a few things along the way that can really be quite beneficial to those who have not traveled very often. By following some of these tips, you can make the whole experience of going through customs much more pleasant, and less worrisome. Of course if you are trying to hide something, then you have more than just cause for being nervous and hopefully you will be caught and get your just dues.
It is only natural for someone to be nervous whenever they are going through customs, as you never know what will throw up a red flag, and no one wants to go through the hassle of what comes next. I have had the same nervous feelings, no matter how many times I have had to do this. I have never had anything to hide from the custom officials, but this doesn't mean that you aren't going to worry nonetheless. The thought of sitting in an interrogation room and having somebody drill you with question after question, with the threat of being detained, is not a pleasant thought. However, the first thing you have to do is to remain calm and act natural, because if the custom officials senses any hint of nervousness, this is a sure sign that you could be hiding something. This is what they are trained to look for, regardless of your innocence or not. So just continue to focus on something positive, which is a trick that I always use.
The most important part of all, is that you answer all of the questions that the official asks you in a respectful manner and to answer them sufficiently enough. They have a number of questions that they will ask you, to try and see if you are hiding anything, and the purpose of these questions is generally to get guilty people nervous. However, the flip side of this is that it also makes innocent people nervous as well. This is of course where you come in, and why it is so important to always remain calm, and give an air of confidence about yourself. This way you will not raise any suspicions among the official, and will be sent happily on your way.
